EPL Betting: A Look To The Futures

EPL Betting: A Look To The Futures

With Christmas long since behind us and the Premier League transfer window just about to slam shut, it is now time to look ahead to the outright futures betting markets and although a win for Manchester City will not offer much in the way of value, it can certainly be found elsewhere.

Because with a whole range of markets available and ones that are based on events at the end of the season, now is the time to stake those medium-term wagers in a bid for profitability this coming May.

With that in mind, here are three futures markets which may just be tempting enough for you to put your money where your mouth is.

THE TOP FOUR

With Manchester City and Liverpool being considered as the only two genuine title contenders, they are not a factor within this market, and this means, Chelsea are currently at the top of the pile at odds of -3300.

A price that suggests that Thomas Tuchel’s men would have to hit an awful run of form in the final third of the campaign and although the Blues have been stuttering as of late, a top-four finish looks a near certainty.

Of course, nothing is a given when it comes to the cut and thrust of the Premier League and the race for the top four is arguably its most competitive for years. However, Chelsea do possess an incredibly amount of talent and that talent will likely keep their nearest rivals at bay.

Which means with their qualification for the Champions League all but in the bag, the question is who will earn that fourth and final invite and at the time of writing, the bookmakers are showing some confidence in Tottenham.

Because although they may have suffered a recent defeat to Chelsea, they still possess games in hand on every other team hoping for Champions League qualification and it is this, which has caught the eye of oddsmakers.

At the time of writing, the 2019 Champions League finalists find themselves priced at odds of +175 and just to make things a little more interesting, this is the same price that has been attached to Manchester United.

Which means although Arsenal and West Ham will both feel that they have a chance of finishing fourth, it is likely to be a straight fight between Tottenham and Manchester United and a lot will depend on whether Tottenham can land some signings before the end of January.

TOP GOALSCORER

When it comes to the hitmen in the Premier League, they are not only in pursuit of the title itself but also the Golden Boot – an award which is passed on to the player who scores the most goals in any 38-game season.

A frenetic battle that usually goes down to the wire and with the final day of any league season being known for crazy results, that is the ideal opportunity for Premier League forwards to fill their (golden) boots.

With that said, this season looks like it could be a completely different story and although Mohamed Salah is currently representing Egypt on AFCON duty, his nearest rivals are nowhere near him in the scoring charts.

Because the Egyptian wizard has currently scored 16 times this season and with us now approaching its final third, it is no surprise that the former Roma and Fiorentina forward is the clear favourite to win this year’s Golden Boot.

At the time of writing, Salah is priced as short as -400 and with teammate Diogo Jota currently second on the list and six goals behind, backing the 29-year-old Egypt international would be a rather shrewd investment.

Then again players can also find themselves out of form and if the goals dry up at Anfield for both Salah and Jota, then there is no harm looking at the other candidates in the race for this season’s Premier League Golden Boot.

One of those candidates is Jamie Vardy and although he has found the net on nine separate occasions, he has been hampered by injury. Which means even though his sharpness is not declining in the twilight of his career, his body is perhaps letting him down.

Something which thankfully has not been the case for Harry Kane and after an incredibly slow start to this season, he is doing his absolute best to make up for lost time and if you think the England captain can do the unthinkable this season, you can back him at odds of +2000

YOUNG PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Although the award of the PFA Young Player of The Year has been slightly outdated in recent times, a change in ruling has given it more meaning for this season and for those who are eligible, it is an accolade that they would love to win.

The reason for its previous state of outdatedness was due to the fact that players up to the age of 23 could win the award and although that was considered ‘young’ in previous decades, the world of football has changed since the creation of the prize in 1973/74.

With footballers being old enough if good enough, the criteria of the award has now seen the maximum age dropped to 21 and with Phil Foden having another impressive season at Manchester City, he is currently the favourite to be the 2021/22 Young Player of The Year.

Of course, it was Foden who scooped the very same award last season and after playing a major part in City’s landing of the Premier League crown, the England international looks set to repeat that feat in just a few months.

Which means if Pep Guardiola does get his hands on another league title, it is highly likely that Foden will win his personal prize for the second season in a row and at current odds of -135, he is also the favourite to do so.

While if it is not to be Foden, others will be in the spotlight and with Chelsea loanee Conor Gallagher having a fantastic season at Crystal Palace, the 21-year-old will also fancy his chances of scooping the award.
