The Premier League Assist Kings
In any football league or competition, there is always an increased focus on goals. Not only because they go a long way to winning matches or trophies but also because those who score the goals are so often in the limelight. However, we should also be aware of the players with the Premier League assist stats.
A limelight that shines brightest on those players at the sharpest end of the pitch and with the likes of Harry Kane, Mohamed Salah and Jamie Vardy winning Premier League Golden Boots in recent years, they should also show a debt of gratitude to their teammates.
Because although forwards are capable of carving out opportunities for themselves, they do need a little help along the way and in most cases, a goal has come about due to the hard work of another player on the pitch.
That is not to undermine what the Premier League target men do on a weekly basis, it is more not to overlook the chief creators within the division and with that in mind, we are now going to look at the assist kings of the past 30 years.

Ryan Giggs – 162 Assists
When it comes to a player who is synonymous with both the Premier League and Manchester United, you must look no further than Ryan Giggs and although he perhaps leads this list by longevity alone, it is not an attribute to be ignored either.
Because the Welsh wizard was known for tormenting opposition defenders on the wing in his younger years and although he eventually moved inside to a more central role, there was no let up when it came to creating goals for others.
Of course, Giggs was not just somebody who laid goals on for others, he was more than capable of using either his left or right foot to good effect and with 13 Premier League medals to his name (the most in history), he also rightfully takes his place at the top of this chart.
Cesc Fabregas – 111 Assists
Second in our list of assist kings is none other than Cesc Fabregas and with spells at both Arsenal and Chelsea in the Premier League, his ability to create goals for others is something that unites the two fanbases.
Especially as supporters of the Gunners and the Blues are not shy when it comes to their displeasure towards Tottenham and a similar sense of displeasure would have been felt throughout the Spurs community when Fabregas was at his very best.
With the also ex-Barcelona midfielder seemingly having a knack to cause Tottenham woe in either red or blue colours, the Spaniard was arguably the king of the capital when it came to assists and he can back that up by creating 111 in the Premier League.
Wayne Rooney – 103 Assists
After bursting onto the Premier League scene with Everton, it was Manchester United where Wayne Rooney really made his name and under the watchful eye of the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson, he would go on to be the record all-time scorer for the Red Devils.
However, the scoring of goals was just one string to his bow and with the ability to pick out a pass also being afforded to the Merseyside man, Rooney would eventually create the record number of Premier League assists for an English player.
Of course, when it comes to England, the now Derby County manager is currently the record goalscorer for the Three Lions and although Harry Kane is in danger of snatching that accolade for himself, he is not there just yet.
Frank Lampard – 102 Assists
While from one former England star to another and although Wayne Rooney may be top of the charts when it comes to his countrymen, his former Three Lions teammate is not all that far behind either.
Just one behind to be precise and with Frank Lampard being known for his midfield scoring ability, he was just as capable when it came to creating a supply line for Didier Drogba or any other Chelsea forward who arrived at Stamford Bridge.
Then again, there have been so many forward flops in West London, that Lampard’s ability to score was just as important to the team and with him being a key part of Jose Mourinho’s first Chelsea generation, the now Everton boss would feature in a pair title successes under the ‘Special One’.
Dennis Bergkamp – 94 Assists
A player who was one of the first wave of world-class European talents to reach the Premier League and when Dennis Bergkamp joined from Italian giants Inter Milan, it is fair to say that the footballing world took notice.
Because although things did not go quite to plan for Bergkamp at the San Siro, nobody could ignore the pedigree that was first cultivated in Amsterdam and with the famous Ajax academy having put the foundations in place, it was Arsenal where the former Dutch international really shone.
Not only did Bergkamp make the art of creating goals look all but effortless, he was also rather adept at scoring them as well and you only have to say the name Nikos Dabizas as a reminder of just how good this Arsenal star was.
David Silva – 93 Assists
When it comes to trying to explain how good David Silva was for Manchester City, we may run out of superlatives and with the Spaniard being nothing short of mercurial in midfield, he would be the man who laid on so many goals for the likes of Sergio Aguero, Edin Dzeko or Mario Balotelli.
With the Etihad being known as Silva’s playground, he would give opposition defenders the run-around and once that act has played out in front of thousands in attendance and millions watching across the globe, a City goal would not be all that far away.
No matter how many superstar players joined the City squad, Silva was always the constant and with him playing such a key role in their accelerated progress up the table, he was given a hero’s goodbye at the end of the 2019/20 Premier League season.
It remains to be seen who will dominate the English Premier League assist stats in the future. However, given the quality players in the league, it is only a matter of time before we see another player join the legends above.
