EPL To Stay Up – First Impressions of Newly Promoted Teams

As the new Premier League season gets underway, the focus has largely been placed on the arrival of Erling Haaland and just how many goals the Norwegian forward will score between now and next May.

However, it would be unfair to only shine a spotlight on the former Borussia Dortmund forward and with 19 other clubs also competing in the division with Manchester City, that spotlight will also need to be placed in a number of different directions.

Hopefuls that will look to avoid demotion at the first time of asking and with Fulham, Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest all reaching the promised land, we are going to weigh up their chances of staying within the top tier of English football.

Fulham – EPL to Stay Up

After winning last season’s edition of the EFL Championship at something of a relative canter, Fulham fans may be largely disappointed by a lack of true activity in the transfer market and especially as they have had so much time to prepare.

Because bar a near herculean collapse at the tail end of last season, there was never any doubt that Marco Silva was going to be taking Fulham back to the Premier League and therefore, the Khan family who own the club, should have already been thinking of transfer plans for the summer.

However, with the Khan’s also owning the Jacksonville Jaguars in the NFL and Tony (the son of Fulham’s principal owner Shahid) acting as the founder of All Elite Wrestling in the United States, business at Fulham always seems to be lower down their pecking order.

Something that has certainly been the case as a new Premier League season has begun and although they have bought in Bernd Leno from Arsenal, even the German goalkeeper was only afforded a place on the bench in the 2-2 draw at home to Liverpool.

Although there have been questions regarding Mitrovic’s temperament and attitude in the past, he certainly looks a more rounded player now and after picking up where he left off against Liverpool, he may just cause a few more defenders a headache or two this season.

Bournemouth – EPL to Stay Up

While the second team to earn automatic promotion at the end of last season were Bournemouth and with Scott Parker also achieving at the Vitality Stadium, what he did at Craven Cottage, he will now look to avoid another relegation as a Premier League manager.

Because the former Tottenham midfielder has previously overseen two drop downs to the Championship at Fulham and although there is a slight caveat attached to the first one, he was certainly in full charge for the most recent demotion in West London.

However, that was then, and this is now. The now that saw Bournemouth earn themselves a rather surprise home win over Aston Villa during the opening weekend and one that has now increased the feeling of optimism within the club.

Optimism was certainly needed as far as manager Parker is concerned and with the Cherries also being rather quiet in the transfer market this summer, he was rather public when it came to his frustrations.

Frustrations that were steeped in recruitment or perhaps the lack thereof and although these issues are yet to be fixed, there is still enough time to get a few new faces through the door. That and they are already off the mark from a Premier League points of view.

Like for any promoted side, goals are going to be hugely important and although Kieffer Moore’s first taste of top tier football was largely forgettable, the Welsh forward already looks primed and ready for better fortunes this time. Perhaps this will be a key element when looking at their EPL to stay up chances.

Nottingham Forest – EPL to Stay Up

The final of the three promoted sides is none other than Nottingham Forest and after an incredibly busy summer for manager Steve Cooper, it is fair to say that it could go one of two ways at the City Ground.

Because although a whole host of new playing personnel can breathe new life into a squad, it can also damage the harmony that helped get the club promoted in the first place and it is this balancing act, that Forest must find.

An act that was certainly not on show in their opening Premier League outing at Newcastle and with the Magpies earning a 2-0 win in front of their own support, it has meant the steep learning curve for Cooper and his new charges has already begun.

While one of those new charges is none other than Jesse Lingard and with the England international making the switch after leaving Manchester United, it is fair to say that his arrival has raised a number of eyebrows.

Especially when you consider the money that Lingard will be commanding during the length of his one-year contract and although his capture is something of a gamble, the length of deal involved at least mitigates the risk.

If Lingard can help his current employers stay in the division, then his weekly salary will be worth every penny. However, should Forest return to the Championship straight away, many will ask if his signature was a sensible one.

It will be interesting to see who will stay up in the premier league this season. We could see the three promoted teams in the premier league next season. However, it is extremely difficult to do and takes a substantial effort combined with a degree of luck to stay in the league the season after promotion.
